Jaymail is the interface for a supported Stalwart mailbox you already have. Databarn Amsterdam B.V. provides Jaymail support and operates the Databarn-hosted mail service. Independent providers remain responsible for their own mailboxes.

Get started on Android

Download Jaymail from Google Play for Android 8 or later. You need an existing mailbox; installing Jaymail does not create one. No separate Jaymail account or invitation is needed to connect your own server.

These steps match the current Google Play release, Jaymail 1.0.0 (7). Button names below are shown in English; the app also supports Dutch.

Your own Stalwart server

  1. On the welcome screen, tap Sign in manually.
  2. Enter your Email address and Password or app password, then tap Sign in.
  3. Jaymail first tries to find your server automatically. If automatic discovery fails, the Server (e.g. mail.example.com) field appears. Enter your server’s HTTPS address, such as mail.example.com, then tap Sign in again.

If your server supports browser sign-in, enter your email address and choose Sign in through browser, then Open secure browser to approve the request.

Compatibility depends on your Stalwart version, configuration and enabled capabilities. Not every version or setup has been tested; JMAP support alone is not a compatibility guarantee. Contact support with your server version if you are unsure.

Tested Stalwart setup

On 5 October 2026, we tested one configured, unmodified Stalwart 0.16.25 server with an internal account directory, two fresh mailboxes and HTTPS/JMAP enabled. Jaymail 1.0.0 (7) and candidate 1.0.0 (8) passed email/password sign-in, inbox loading, message reading and replying. We independently checked that the reply reached the recipient’s Inbox and the sender’s Sent folder.

These were Android emulator tests with a trusted lab certificate. Google Play installation and physical devices were outside these checks. Results cover basic mail flow in this single setup. Calendar, contacts, shared mailboxes, browser sign-in, notifications and external deliverability were not part of this check.

Your server needs JMAP enabled and an HTTPS certificate trusted by your device. Use your existing mailbox address and password. If your provider requires an app password, obtain one from its administrator.

Pair mailboxes from Jaymail Web

For mailboxes provided through Jaymail, including Databarn and WD6.net, open your welcome link in Jaymail Web and choose to add a device. In the Android app, tap Link from Jaymail Web, then Scan pairing code. Allow camera access and scan the fresh pairing code shown in Web.

On the same phone, choose Kopieer koppellink in Web. In the app, open Link from Jaymail Web and choose Paste pairing link. You can also use this option if you cannot use the camera. Review the mailbox addresses and tap Add mailboxes. This route does not require typing mailbox passwords. Keep pairing links private.

Newer onboarding

The newer onboarding is not in the current Google Play release 1.0.0 (7). If your app shows Connect your server, its Server (optional) field is available immediately: leave it empty for discovery, or enter your server’s HTTPS address. For Jaymail Web pairing, choose Scan QR code or Paste pairing link under Jaymail customers.

On iPhone or iPad

No separate Jaymail access code is required. In the iOS app, you can sign in to an existing supported mailbox with its email address and password or app password, or use browser sign-in when your server supports it. Jaymail can discover the server; you can also enter its HTTPS address manually. JMAP support alone is not a compatibility guarantee.

If you received a welcome link for provisioned mailboxes, open it in Jaymail Web and choose to add a device. In the iOS app, open Link from Jaymail Web → Scan pairing code and scan the fresh code there. The standard iPhone Camera opens the web flow. On the same phone, choose Kopieer koppellink in web, then choose Paste pairing link in Jaymail and explicitly paste the copied link. Review the mailbox addresses and confirm adding them. This route does not require typing mailbox passwords. Keep pairing links private.

Requirements

  • A current web browser, an iPhone/iPad on iOS / iPadOS 26 or later, or an Android phone/tablet on Android 8 or later. Android is available through the Google Play link above.
  • A mailbox on a currently supported Stalwart server. Provider-connection availability in Jaymail Web can differ from the native app; check with support before relying on an independent server.
  • Incoming-mail push uses our optional relay on iOS and Android and is never required to read your mail. Android push requires Google Play services on the device, a Firebase-configured app build and relay service. It starts only when you enable new-mail notifications in the app and allow device notifications. Mail and calendar remain available without Google Play services. Local reminders are separate from incoming-mail push.
  • Mailbarn is not required and is not available as a mailbox option yet.

Security & responsible disclosure

Found a vulnerability or a privacy weakness? Please email info@databarn.nl with enough detail to reproduce it, and give us a reasonable window to fix it before disclosing publicly. Don’t access other people’s mail or degrade the service while testing. We’ll acknowledge your report, keep you posted, and credit you if you like. Machine-readable details live at /.well-known/security.txt.
